Power To Accomplish Our Goals

February 5, 2023

Scripture: Acts 1:1 – 11
Matthew 10:1
1 Corinthians 4: 20

INTRODUCTION:
In the early days of the computer era, if there was a power failure, and you did not hit the save key, all of your work was lost. Today the key to remaining productive in the world of computing is to have a “UPS” – an “Uninterrupted Power Supply.” In the same way, Christians need a consistent and permanent power source in their daily lives.

POINTS:

1. Jesus’ Ministry began with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1: 1 – 3; Matthew3:16-17)

The Holy Spirit introduced the ministry of Jesus.

a) He now gives the command to his disciples.
b) Luke reminded us (v.1) that his writing with “Theophilus” which comprise
‘Theos (form from God), and ‘Philos’ (brotherly love).
c) His name mean: “God Lover” or “Friend of God.”

● Verse 1 says: “He began to Do and Teach”.

● The rest of the book of Acts tells the story, and it is still being told today,
of finishing the work that Jesus began.

Philippians 1:6
“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you
will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

What is the work and or Ministry God has given you?
– Ask the Holy Spirit to prepare you to Do It.

1 Corinthians 2: 9-10; 13
The Holy Spirit instructs us concerning the INFORMATION (the Word) from Jesus.

Acts 1:3 “ Speaking about the things that pertain to the Kingdom of God.”
We have the Truth from the Holy Spirit. He will teach us.

Luke 12:12
It is important to note that if we are going to finish the work that Jesus began, we are
going to have to teach what Jesus taught.

1 Cor. 15: 5 – 7
Jesus’ Resurrection provided infallible appearances. A Personal Manifestation.

● We cannot finish the unfinished work of Christ unless it flows out of a vital
Relationship with Jesus Christ in our Lives.

● The Holy Spirit reminds us that we have all of the evidence to show Jesus is Alive

● The evidence is that He is alive in our lives

2. The Power Is In A Person (Acts 1:4-5)

● The HS is not a Power. He is a Person who empowers every Christian.

● He is a part of the Godhead.

● The HS sees your Spiritual and personal life as interconnected.

● Jesus has transferred Power to us through the person of the HS.

● Do you want to accomplish the Goals God has place on your heart for this year?
Submit to the Holy Spirit.

● The HS gives Wisdom, understanding and power to help you conquer the many
obstacles we will encounter.

3. The Holy Spirit Provides Power To Do (Acts 1:6-7)

● The HS always gives Clarity and Direction

● Verse 6: Gives us a good Example of how easy it is to get off tract.

● The enemy is always planning to derail the plans and goals God has set for us.

● Avoid the distractions

● The HS not only empowers you, but He gives direction for where to go and how to
get things done.

● He is our ROADMAP. He is our MAPQUEST.

EXAMPLES OF THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE OLD TESTAMENT:

● PSALM 21:13

● 2 SAMUEL 22:33

● MATTHEW 6:13

● MATTHEW 10:1

● Acts 1:8: “But you shall receive Power AFTER the HS has come upon you.”

● When the HS comes – the Christian’s power for living is directly related to the
presence of the HS in his/her life.

4. Examples of your new found power. (1 Corinthians 4: 7-9)

POWER TO STAND

● When we face difficult situations in life, we have grace and supernatural power
backing us.

2 Corinthians 12:9

● POWER TO OVERCOME WEAKNESS

● Human weakness is overcome by divine power

● I am weak, but yet I am Strong through the Power of the HS

2 CORINTHIANS 13:4

POWER TO LIVE

Life is difficult. The task God has given us in our church life, in our spiritual life, in our
personal life will be challenging, but Paul says that we:

“Shall LIVE with Him by the POWER of GOD”

● EPHESIANS 3:7

POWER TO MINISTER

● You have a ministry aptitude from God. He has SANCTIONED you and He has
SANCTIFIED you.

● His Grace operates according to His Power.
