In traveling from Jerusalem to Galilee Jesus was led to take the direct route through the country of Samaria. At that time, Samaria was usually avoided so one wouldn’t encounter the people that lived there. However, in obedience to God’s will Jesus took this route through Samaria that in John 4:4 is referred to as his “must go through” route. In taking this route, Jesus encountered a Samaritan woman known in scripture as the woman at the well and their encounter changed not only her life but the lives of many Samaritans (John 4:4-42).
We too are sometimes put in situations that we may not understand. God will send us somewhere temporarily just to minister to one person. This may be your, “must go through” mission encounter.
Jesus went wherever there was a need. God will send us on many, “must go through”, missions. He has done this with me, but I didn’t catch on right away and understand what was happening. I did, however, question God regarding some of my placements. I wondered: “Why am I here?” and “What is it that I am supposed to be doing?”. Later I learned to just watch, listen and wait.
My waiting consisted of: praying for guidance and wisdom; waiting for God to reveal who I was suppose to encounter and what I was suppose to say. Just as God taught and instructed his disciples he uses us to fulfill His will. God can and will use us as vessels to minister, heal, and bless His people. It’s never about us, but God’s will being done.
So, when God sends you on your “must go through” mission remember to watch, listen and wait. You may at times feel inadequate and think that God can’t or wouldn’t want to use you. God chooses whom He pleases. Be a willing vessel eager to do the work of the Lord. Being obedient to God is greater than sacrifice.
